CICS Crisis Stabilization-Transitional Living Center

CICS helps coordinate the administration of innovative and effective treatment for those in our 11-county region who struggle with mental health and/or substance abuse. Our regional system is designed to improve health, hope and successful outcomes for the adults in each county in our region who have mental health disabilities and intellectual/developmental disabilities, including those with multi-occurring issues and other complex human service needs. Those needs often require a combination of resources from various providers, so we’re proud to seize opportunities for effective partnerships when they mean we can bring new services to our region that will help improve access to care.

We were recently presented with an opportunity to improve access to care and quality of care in the CICS region. Together with Story County and the Mary Greeley Medical Center, CICS is proud to announce that a new Crisis Stabilization-Transitional Living Center (CS-TLC) in Ames will open in late November to provide support for people in the CICS area who are coping with mental illness and co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse.

The CS-TLC is a cooperative program of Mary Greeley Medical Center, Story County and CICS to expand each organization’s ability to provide care and support services. Mary Greeley Medical Center will manage operations at the CS-TLC, staffing it with psychiatric assistants who are trained to work with adults with mental illness in a community-based setting. The facility will house eight beds for adults referred by providers. The CS-TLC will provide two levels of care, one for patients who require crisis stabilization because of a mental health emergency like increased symptoms of a mental illness or emotional distress, while the other level of care, transitional living, is intended for adults who have recently been in crisis but whose situations have stabilized. The patients in transitional care will have access to supportive resources like ongoing counseling services and aid with housing and employment. The CS-TLC will replace and expand the facility Mary Greeley Medical Center has operated for several decades.

Everyone at CICS is excited about the opportunity to once again expand mental health services in our region!
